John Lyon to run the London Marathon - AGAIN!!!!
| |
I'm 64 years old, and in 1991 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. Following various courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy I took up running in 2004, since then I've run 8 marathons including 3 London. In November 2008 I spent 5 weeks in my local hospital Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor undergoing a Stem-cell transplant. During a few days in intensive-care with pneumonia I made a promise to myself to run one last marathon. Following 6 months off work and some very slow training I completed the 2010 Virgin London Marathon, raising almost £2,000 for the Lymphoma Society and Alaw Ward were I had the transplant. |

Then my running club Cybi Striders offered me a place in this year's race, my wife Carol thinks I'm mad, but I accepted. I had decided to take a year off fund-raising, but the first thing people ask when they find you're running is how can I sponsor you?
So I'm raising money for the same 2 charities. I started a bit late and don't have a target, but any amount is welcome. You can sponsor me online at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JohnLyon. Thank you for your support and donations, every penny really does make a difference.
If you, or a family member or friend have been affected by lymphoma or a similar condition, and wish to talk to someone who’s been there and done it – give me a ring on 01407 760914
